AI-Generated Art is here. Are you ready to meet your new overlords?
The general discussion I see over AI-Generated Art is, honestly, poor and boring. Like with most things, it seems people don’t like to think deeply about these subjects and just default to their most comfortable opinion: “it’s the future of art!”.
The most enlightening thoughts I’ve seen about this subject are from Jake Parker. You can read it explained in detail here.
I agree with everything he has to say. But getting to the point I want to make: AI is not going to replace human artists anytime soon (not ever, in my opinion). BUT… it’s not going away either. It’s definitely going to be used as a tool for artists, probably as a concept board of some kind.
Thinking about that, I decided to try it for my own project.
For the first image, I used the prompts: man with wolf head + leather jacket + mechanical arm + cyberpunk.
Not good. What about: man with oni mask + red coat + flaming sword.
As a general image, it might look cool, but as a character concept? Nah.
AI art can look very good.
But that is when you get to it without expectations. With some prompts, it can give you beautiful images, but not really useful for specific usage. It can be really dumb too sometimes. Look at this one: prompt was dog in sunflower field + oil painting.
Frustrating.
I’ve looked into other people's images for some time, comparing them to their prompts. In general, my opinion is the same: it looks great without context. If you are a creator that needs specific concept art for a project, it will fail you. But if you’re just looking to create beautiful art with just word inputs, it will work perfectly.
HEAVENBORN Update
The layouts phase has started. I’ve been failing to meet my own goals for this phase, unfortunately. I have to make my client’s projects the priority (and there are a lot of them, THANK GOD!). This is not a hobby, after all, this is my day job.
Heavenborn will have 45 colored pages in total. I hope I can finish all the layouts by the end of the month. I want to start penciling 1 page/week in September. Maybe streaming it? What do you think? Would you watch it?
Check out this artist!
This artist is not only masterful but very prolific too! He posts a new commission almost every day.
I just love the bright colors and flowing lineart.
That’s it for this week! Next week I’m going to show MORE concept art I’ve worked on. Maybe talk more in dept about it?
